A/C recharging question

I have no refrigerant left in my A/C since one of the hoses was disconnected. I bought a kit, more like a bottle of refrigerant, from Advance, but I am not sure if can just use the kit to recharge the system (since the kit is just to add some refrigerant to the system), or do I have to go and pay some major cash to refill the system? If I can just use the kit, what is the proper way to do it? You can never trust the instruction on the bottle!

Still works. That said, it doesn't mean I did the right thing.
If you do go this route, you can get a cheap low side gauge right where buy get the R12. Use that to tell when you are full.
I think the refrigerant capacity is unter the hood or in the manual.
