Default Calling All Wheel Bearing Gurus........

I have STFA and have plenty of good info on the actual bearing replacement, either by-off car press or on-car puller (I have a Schley version). But...no one has commented on the steps to remove the half axle from the bearing/housing. Is it pretty straight forward? I have only done bearings on a B3 90q (struts) and this step was relatively easy with the exception of getting the ball joint stem out of the strut housing.

Thanks for any insights offered.

Default Search for MarkP's write up, he's the king of documentation and quite the wheel bearing expert now

And yes, I think the axle comes right out of the hub once you disconnect the whole upright.

Default PS looks like I documented the rear uninstall, but only took pics of the front

I may have posted details of the front disassembly in a post, so try searching with Account# 139 and "bearing" since 1/1/06

Any heads up for the axle removal part of the job that's not in your documentation?

Default For the fronts, disconnect just the bottom of the upright?..........

The Schley tool works on the car (hopefully). With the upright disconnected at the bottom, will it swing out so that the axle and slide out of the hub?

Default Nah, you won't get one of those out - remove the 2 top bolts

well, 3 actually. The 1 that holds the two control arms in, and then the 2 that hold the tierod to the upright:

Be sure to loosen the axle bolt while the car is still on the ground.

Default Would it be advisable to replace the hubs also?

I didn't see any hub replacements
in the kit pics.

Just wondering. I'll be doing this soon also.
