Default This is so funny! Where I come from, most people drive cars with stick...

You don't need to know at what RPM you are to downshift!
You can hear and feel it from the car. There are more important things to look at when you're driving than how much RPMs your engine is at.
And also, mr Eric Fletcher is right, delay the downshift aas much as possible, downshift is only for getting into the right gear, for the need of power.

Default Ummmm...I don't look at the RPMs and you're arrogant, I was just asking and I happen to know that I

normally downshift at around 3k from feel because I can see the tach shoot up to 3k. If you don't have anything constructive to say, why bother?

Default Yup. ONLY time you should use gears to brake car is descending a steep grade; otherwise, use brakes

Trannys are for moving the car, brakes for stopping it. Clutches and trannies cost a LOT more to replace than brakes!

Default Cool I got yah. But as far as for use in slowing the car don't bother unless we are talking about

going down a grade etc. Is that pretty much what you're saying?

Default Cool, thanks man. I just adjusted my driving habits a little this morning : )

I didn't really learn from the best people if you know what I mean. But I think I'm becoming more competent slowly...
