Can I buy the control arm kit not for the aluminum uprights if I don't use the lower control arms?
I have noticeable play in all my front upper control arms. I was looking at the 034 Motorsports kit ($375) or ($600), the ECS kit ($530), and the Purems kit ($590). Each control arm is approximately $120 each and I need four. I have an early build 2000 S4 with the aluminum uprights. So, it would be the most economical if I buy the whole kit compared to four. Can I use the $375 034 Motorsports kit and not use the lower control arms because I have the aluminum uprights?

I got the PureMS Aluminum kit about 2 months when my uppers went
and even though the lowers were fine I decided to do them at the same time to save me from any future hassles.
After searching and exploring all the options I decided that the PureMS kit was the wisest decision. Not to mention superb customer service.

The lower straight arm is the only one that differs between your MY and the later builds...
so in theory, yes, you can use that without the lowers. The reality is that it is probably more worth while spending for the whole kit, especially considering the cost for replacement will only increase marginally, if at all, for installing the entire set up.
BTW, the Febi-Bilstein kits are usually preferred on the boards [ie not the $375 variety]
