authorized giac installer? Does the chip have to be soldered? How much would a installer charge to install it?

Default I believe you can do it yourself. I had AWE do mine and they gave me the stock chip.....

back. It looks as though I can plug it right back in with no soldering.

It has to be desoldered / soldered on.

Default If you can desolder a surface mount chip without destroying the pads go for it

But since GIAC does that why bother risking it ?

SMT is easier to remove and replace then most through hole ic's
