Default VA DMV website has 3 day pass

When I bought my car, I flew down and drove it home from palm beach FL. I printed out a 3-5 day travel pass from the DMV website. I would check your home state.

Default I think you also need a bill of sale and

it wouldn't hurt leaving the plates on (even if they are not yours)

What about like a release of liability from the former owner?

Default What I would probably do is

I would have the bill of sale, insurance, title, and anything else you can think of that might get you out of trouble just in case you get pulled over.

Default Should be no problem...

Most States give you 30 days to register your car from the time of purchase. YSMV. If the title is signed and dated and you have a bill of sale(which you do), that is signed and dated similarly, there should be hassle. You may get pulled over, but you shouldn't be issued a ticket. FWIW, I drove from Katonah, NY to Nashville with no plate this past March and had no worries. Granted, it's the luck of the draw, but it's not often I find an officer tailing me. If anything, I'm usually tailing him. Just don't speed too much over 5-10 over the limit and make yourself an irritation to a cop. That might change the sit.

Cheers, and have fun.
