Can some one explain Stages to me.. What is considered Stage 1,2,3 and how many stages?

Until the end of 2002 (from what I recall), the stages were pretty clear.
It used to be:
stage 1 = chip
stage 2 = chip + catback exhaust
stage 2+ = chip + catback exhaust + downpipes
stage 3 = upgraded turbos
Now, however, too many noob tuners are deciding that the old system didn't fit their needs, so they arbitrarily started calling their upgrades whatever the hell they wanted, thereby screwing up any standardized reference to "stages." IMO, it's now pretty worthless unless your particular circle of friends subscribes to the same naming protocol.
