I'm not sure if it's a bum Ebay ECU or something else. Car seems to run fine and no CEL. Any harm in continuing to run with this?

Default What letter ECU is it?

Might need to recode the instrument cluster.

Default If its a Hitachi MAF then the ECU was likely turned into an M-box.

You need to recode your instrument cluster.

Adaptation -> Channel 60 -> recode to 1025

Default true; my bad. was referring to recoding ECU for no ESP/ABS.

Your cluster can be recoded by going to Instruments, Adaptation, Channel 60, and then using 1025 for ESP or 0 for no ESP.

Your ECU can be recoded by going to Engine, Login (11463), and then 06711 for ESP or 06611 for no ESP.

Default The 0 -> 1025 isn't related to ESP. Its the setting for the instrument cluster gateway...

related to the powertrain databus missing message DTC.

He's a 2000 so no ESP and no need to enable it.

Default but M box programming would have that turned on, so he'd more than likely have to turn it off.

Not sure if it'd matter, but it might.

Nope... reprogramming the ECU does not enable ESP.
