Default The one that runs under the manifold...

Is from the crankcase breather. Vents blowby to the intake manifold when the car is under vacuum. The base of the "f" is from the ACF system(fuel vapors).

Under vacuum, both fuel vapors and oil vapors merge in the f-hose and are drawn into the intake manifold and burned up.

Default That sounds like it is going to be really expensive ....

I had a little incident with it this weekend, or I should say my father trying to help out had an incident with it this weekend. Any ideas on how to replace it and how much it might cost? I am almost scaried to ask.

Default The actually hose just behind that connector right runs into the F-hose.

I don't know if that is a good description, but thats the only way I can think of describing it.

Default did you break the piece connected to the middle part of the 'F'?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/36810/fhose.jpg"></center><p>because if you did, I've been there! Well, my dealership actually broke it.

Anyway, if it is what I think you're talking about, it was cheap - it's only a little plactic gizmo with a few plastic accordian hose things going to a collector - IIRC, it was like $50 (part only) - don't know about labor though

Default I'm guessing that like most things in the engine bay, it will be a PITA to repair.

Probably have to remove the y-pipe... not sure what else.

Good luck!

Default Yeah its that little accordian type piece, right after the "gizmo" where you found the elec. tape.

Thanks for the pic makes it a little more clear. I think I will take to VW Specialities and let Ron deal with it. I was just trying to figure how hard my wallet is going to get hit on this one.

Default And that is why I am not going to mess with it. I have a good shop, so I will let them deal with it.

Thanks for the help.

Default The assembly of hoses that the F-hose connects to is like 80-90 bones.

And that does not include the bleeder valve and the bleeder valve rubber rubber houseing (It's the gizmo you are talking about..heheh).

Here's a picture of everything when I took it out of my car to install a new bleeder valve housing and Samco F-hose a while back.
