Can we revisit this please (upgraded MAF needed)?
If you're building a kit (like many of you out there) what do you do? Your kit would of course include injectors & software & maybe a 5bar FPR.
The dumb question of the day is why is it needed if the RS4 & S4 airboxes are the same size & same filter? In other words, you're only as good as your smallest orifice, right?<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1320748.phtml">MAF needed?</a></li></ul>

Well, if I understand it correctly...
Its not so much an issue of flow restriction.
At some point, the stock MAF is going to be flowing so much air that its voltage is pegged. Any airflow above that amount will not be measured.
By using a MAF with a larger diameter housing (and an ECU calibrated for that MAF), the same amount of air flow will yield a smaller MAF signal... effectively, the MAF's upper limit is increased.

and as DAP points out, the second that happens and you tweak it, start lookin
for fuel injectors and then something to tune the a/f ratios with, whether it be a full on ecu tuning or something to tweak the maf signal for those injectors

Right, and if you combine that with Mo and 951's point, as long as the person tuning the software
knows what they're doing, why can't you recode higher flow to a lower voltage?

It was in the original post - this will answer your question below too:) ASW can tune the software
to remap the flow downward vs. voltage. Therefore, you lose out on the RS4 maf's higher flow capacity but you won't fry stock mafs due to overvoltage - a sort of "budget" intake. Still have to pay for the custom tuning and a retune with any parts changes.

btw, donnie....i'm not sure it's overvoltage that fries these, i mean, look at some 00's running
around with blown mafs and they can be unchipped/chipped/dirty intake/etc. then look at the hitachi guys....1 or 2 failures i've seen so far.
