I know I can get a line out converter but will it have enough signal power and clarity to justify putting in high end equipment? TIA

...regardless of the head unit?"
My daily rant continues....
Look for another installment tomorrow night when another person in love with big subwoofers yearning for "high end audio" asks a very similar question.

I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your question.
However, there are two advantages to keeping the current head end unit:
- It gets the best radio reception, especially FM, that I've ever encountered in a car.
- It's nice, all else equal, to keep the stock look.

I tried using the factory head unit for purely cosmetical reasons, but found out the hard way that the built in crossover on the head unit does not send any signals out lower than 250hz. We hooked it up to an RTA and found this out. So, the answer is NO...get a good headunit.

i think the reason for that would be that i run everything thru an Audio Control three.1 and it boosts the line voltage and also has some EQ stuff and sub level adjustment.
it's definitely worth looking into
