line driver or not, you're still starting with a sub-par signal, so you're not going to be able to fix it with great components farther down the line.
Will you get an acceptable system that's better than stock? Yes.
Will you get a "high end" system? No.

To Jyoteen's point, some people define it as "lot's of stuff". With a low level line out, the factory head unit can be mated well to a nice array of aftermarket equipment.
In my mind, high-end means a stone's throw from being in Carnegie Hall. Very hard to do, and near impossible if you're starting with a factory head. It simply wasn't designed for the ultimate in musical resolution.
