Can you use a different higher Kelvin bulb with the stock ballast?

The stock ones are 4300K, so could i use a 5500K or 6000K? I'm not sure what wattage those higher bulbs are or even if they would work. A buddy of mine wants some "bluer" lights for his IS300, and since everyone here is so knowledgeable i thought i'd ask.

the light is whiter than stock (you haven't reached the blue range) which many say increases contrast, even with the fewer lumens. it's all downhill from there as you go up in K's.
i think you need to up the ballast if you're going to up the K's. i've got 5400k bulbs w/ 50w ballasts (SPP Stg 3). this drops the color temp from 5400k (which is the rating using 35w ballasts, iirc), but still remains whiter than stock and as a bonus gives higher than stock lumens at the same time.
