oil in the combustion chamber causes *detonation* before spark ignition or it simply causes detonation?
What makes you think that oil gets by your rings?

Don't want to cause any heated arguments/discussions
From what I understand DetOnation (thanks), is fuel pre-igniting before spark goes off from spark plugs.
When you have a lower octane rating it can cause detonation/knocking .
My point to all this, I'm getting a chip installed and worried about running high boost levels, so therefore don't want to have any reason for my engine to suffer from low fuel octane (or coating the I/C's.
With my previous car (R33 Skyline) I installed an oil/air separator, after that there was no more oil getting into the combustion process.
I may be wrong about all this but many people agree with me on this.
