CD Changer installation

Since no one responded to my request for the exact location of the CD Changer cable in the trunk, I proceeded to locate it! I removed some access panels and the CD/NAV mounting bracke assembly before I finally found it, but now, knowing where it is, I find that you can reach it, and even probably install the CD Changer, all by reaching in through the tool kit opening and the CD Changer opening. Just reach into the tool kit opening, and undo the cable tie you see to the right along the wheel hump. Then reach in through the CD Changer opening and "feel" through the bundle of cables until you feel the only smooth cable, about 1/4 in diameter. Follow it down slightly, and you will feel it disappear into a foam tube. Just gently pull it out of that tube, the round DIN connector should come right out! The foam will probably stay in place, or it might pull out with the plug, no matter in either case.
I do not have my (Factory) changer, yet, but it appears that you could get enough mounting screws installed just reaching through the tool kit opening, as well as plug it in that way.
So, if you do not want to remove the rear and side access panels from the trunk, you should still be able to install a CD Changer!

OEM. Panasonic 8 disk fits the opening, OK, but need adapter cable,
Plus the mounting holes don't line up, and the factory bracket might interfere with the adapter cable, though you could remove the factory bracket, and easily add the mounting holes and remove a bit of the rear area to clear the plug.
I just decided I didn't want to muck with it, so I'm taking the Panasonic back to Circuit City, and have ordered the factory one from Rockvlle Audi, they had the best price!

Installation Hints
Jim,
Last weekend I installed the OEM six disk CD changer (ordered from Clair Parts, P/N 4B0-035-11-A) on my S4 and as expected it was truly “plug and play”. The only caveat is I had to remove the metal frame housing (the one that holds the toolbox/CD/ NAV) from the car. This was due to the fact that you will be supplied 4 machine screws to secure the CD changer to the frame and the only way I could access it was to have removed the frame completely from the car. No FAQ’s or pictures are necessary, as it was a simple process, it just took added time. Good luck and enjoy your tunes.
