Default CEL Misfire Piston No.1

Had CEL come on near the end of a long trip and engine starting misfiring. The tech traced the issue to a bad Ignition Control Module. Glad it wasn't cats or something more. Quoted $200.00 for the part and 1/2 labor. Anyone have any experiance replacing one of these? Part price is a bit higher than I can find on line and labor seems fair. So not sure to tell him to go or Do it myself. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Theyre simple to replace. Theyre on top of the air box and theres 1 for each bank. Youd just need to unplug the bad one and unbolt the 2 bolts holding it to the airbox. Before you put the new one on, clean off the old heat sink material and apply a new coat of heat sink material between the ICM and the airbox. Plug it back in and go. Should be fine if thats definitely the problem

You can buy the Huco aftermarket ICM (also called the POS and for good reason).
You can install the ICM very easily and don't forget to coat the surface with dielectric grease for heat dissipation. I have replaced a lot of these on the
B5 generation of cars as the location used by Audi "sees" a lot of heat. On the Audi 100 2.8l V6 the almost the same module is mounted in a much cooler location and rarely fails. In fact you could use the 92 100 V6 ICM on your S4 if you use only one mounting screw. It works I have done it but it is very "getto" repair.

Thanks to you both for the information. Yes it was the ICM for sure. I'll be purchasing two. Might as well replace both.
