Default Check Engine light came on and off.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning the check engine light was on. Then last night and this morning it went off. I called the dealer and they claimed the ecu will reset after about 12 hours and the code is erased. Is this accurate? BTW, the car ran fine during this entire episode. I can't begin to speculate what tripped the ecu.

Thanks

Default There are many codes that may be intermittent.....

the check engine light can go off and on after a period of time...You should VAG your car to see what they are - the codes should be logged even though the light is off. I had intermittent O2 sensor codes - the light would come and go...you should at least check to see what they are. You really do not want to miss codes for things like running lean and overboosting, and I'm sure many others....

Default agreed with jason, also the way the CE light works is that...

for the light to stay on, indicating that you have to have to car checked out; the SAME error code has to be triggered on start up 3 consecutive times.
if it does not, the CE light either comes on & off as in your case, or it doesnt even come on at all.

Have someone VAG your car, the codes should still be there.

O2 sensor probably, I've had it replaced 2-3 times in 3 years.
