I have run MTM software for a while now, and switched a little over a week ago to APR V5.0 for a change. I am actually surprised by how differently each chip acts.
Torque: MTM wins hands down - MUCH more torquey everywhere.
Horsepower: Hard to feel horsepower, but APR wins up top at least (over 5500 rpm where MTM dies). I do like being able to scream up to 7K rpms.
Throttle Response: MTM wins, APR has more of a lag and makes turbo lag more apparent. MTM makes the engine feel more like a V8 with all of its almost instant torque.
Smoothness: MTM wins. APR has exhibited a few unsmooth moments, sometimes sporadically and other times when accelerating at lower rpms (2200) in a higher gear.
Drag Strip: I didn't run all that well with MTM at the drags despite pulling a sub 2.0 60' time. I do have a busted motor mount and a really bouncy stock suspension which don't help out, but the lack of top end really hurts in this category as the best I pulled was a 14.1 at 101 mph. I went to test out APR last Wednesday but was rained out. I have a feeling that it may be faster at the drags not because of more power, but because it sustains it at higher rpms and won't make for jerky shifts.
Overall, MTM has more power, feels stronger, and runs smoother but APR also has plenty of pull. I do appreciate the convenience of Flipswitch, an ingenius invention that other tuners could learn from. I have a feeling that V5.0 will be APR's last revision (I hope not). Seems strange that MTM got it fairly right w/out all different software revisions. Any ?s/comments please post. I haven't taken any logs w/APR yet, but have full ECUx data from some 3rd gear pulls with MTM (courtesy of Mark P).

Actually, having driven only APR and GIAC, if I wasn't so brainwashed by this place into going faster, and was living in a non-AW-world, I'd be perfectly happy with APR. I found it nice and smooth, and really like the flip-switch. GIAC is a LOT faster though.

Stage 1/2 chips are a wash imo. Basically you're just on the road to turbo failure, one may do it faster than another, but the journey will be more fun :P
I'd try AMS if you want a marriage of MTM and APR, X if you wanna freak a leak...

I'm back in Massachusetts now though, graduated college so I'm studying for MCATs and working. I might be able to make it down to CT sometime, I'll let you know. Thanks a lot for the offer-would be great data to have (comparing same car)

On 91 octane anyways, where the MTM suppliss actual timing. The APR has an issue providing required timing on 91 octane.
But ya MTM with a MBC, VRRrrrOOOOM

I work in MA (near 495&90), so perhaps that is near you? If so, we can find some time at lunch or before/after work. Anyway, the offer is out there.

I can definetly meet up then, at your convenience if you'd like. Hopefully we can do it in some cooler weather so the results will be comparable. Last time was 58 degrees (been too hot recently) Let me know whenever you're free and willing to do some logging and I'll work around whatever I have to do. Thanks again!
