Default Chip Owners! - When you purchased your new ECU/Chip, did it look like it was installed before? (m)

I just recieved my new ECU and chip, and there are scratches all over the top of the ECU just like it was taken in and out of a car many times before. It looks like it was used, so I'm wondering what's up... do they all come like this? Are they tested in cars before shipped out to customers?? What gives?

tuners recycle ECU's i believe. you send yours in and they give you another similar chipped one.

Default My ecu was installed incorrectly from the factory, the clip was not fully engaged

and it scratched the hell out of the ecu as a result.

I guess that my thinking is if you're paying for a new ECU you should get that. Not a used one!

Default From what I've seen/read/heard APR & AWE only sell new ones

Now I suppose there's a chance that just the metal casing was swapped for whatever reason, but that the ECU circuit board itself was brand new

Default Check it for DTCs with a VAG COM. Got one from a tuner that was loaded before I started it up in my

car. Cleared them out and it hasn't thrown one since. Maybe it was a return, but I don't care because it runs like a champ in my car.
