Default Chipping--what are the drawbacks

I recently picked up a 2000 S4, and have been reading about chips with interest. My understanding is that my S4 will run OK with standard unleaded, but performance will improve with premium fuel.

What are the drawbacks/consequences of chipping the engine? I'm aware that there might be warranty problems. Does chipping require premium fuel only?

I'm also planning on the UUC short shifter.

I think all S4s should have premium regardless of chip.

I got gas at '76' today and noticed the 92 was actually 91. WTF?

More HP and torque. Oh, you also get better gas mileage. It sucks, don't get the chip

Default S4s always require premium - DO NOT PUT REGULAR OR MID IN YOUR CAR!!! As far as chipping, the . . .

drawbacks are only two as far as I see, and the second one isn't really a drawback, just a reality: 1) unless you live where I do, your dealer will give you crap for having different firmware and deny warranty claims; and 2) the difference in performance between good gas and bad gas and cold weather and hot weather will be greater than with the stock programming.

Default The filler flap says 91 on my early '01

Read it last night & compared to the 92 on the pump. We hardly ever see higher octane than 92 in Seattle.

Default Yup, Boston. It's available everywhere within ~20 of Boston.

And work pays for it! HaHa
