Background:
I wanted to tint just my backup lenses, not the whole tail light (mine is a black car). I tried an aerosol and it just sucked, all mottled and ugly. I wiped that off pronto.
So a modelshop worker suggested that I use an aerosol paint, but drain the can so I can use it in my airbrush.
It's so simple: Take an Ex-Acto knife to the can up near the top of the can and start drilling. Eventually, you will hear an air leak. Just let it leak for some 30 minutes, and then you can drain the can by opening up the hole. Pour the contents into a container.
I mixed down the paint with some lacquer thinner, and spray it with my airbrush. I've done my taillights and around 40 V1 displays...still have not run out of paint!
My paint has been "BlackShades" by VMT.

You used the knife blade to pierce the can, let the propellant expel, and then....
Made the hole bigger so you could pour the paint out?
What did you store the paint in?
The paint doesn't spray out of the hole?

You use the knife as a drill, so as to make the smallest posssible hole. You simply twist the dremel under low applied pressure. Once the can starts to expel air, just wait.
I collect the can in a plastic container after opening the hole.
Having drained the the contents, I am free to apply via airbrush. I usually dilute it with laquer spirits.
Feel free to ask Q's.
