I just replaced mine. Symptoms were similar. In the logs I was getting errors such as this:
Control Module Part Number: 8D0 820 043 P
Component and/or Version: A4 KLIMAAUTOMAT D56
Software Coding: 00160
Work Shop Code: WSC 06325
3 Faults Found:
00603 - Footwell/defroster Flap Positioning Motor (V85)
41-00 - Blocked or No Voltage
01272 - Positioning Motor for Central Flap (V70)
41-00 - Blocked or No Voltage
01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)
41-00 - Blocked or No Voltage
Replacing the control unit solved the problem.

One or more of the climate control buttons is probably stuck in.
Get some NON RESIDUE contact cleaner (electronics store or Radio Shlock)
Spray the crap out of the seams around each switch, you probably will also need to slip a thin feeler gauge in the spaces around each switch and play with it until it frees up.
The buttons on the right side on mine stick and it's a real pain.
I don't even touch them in the winter.
Liquid spills from cup holder above gum up the switchs.
good luck

Maybe some drink from that well place cupholder spilled in there good, and is making a button stick. Try cleaning it out, and making sure all buttons push in then come out. Good luck!
