Clutch problems, clutch or master/slave cylinder?
Alright so my 2001.5 S4 started to recently have what appears to be clutch related issues. I'm looking for any advice as to whether this is clutch or hydraulic related or ???
Symptoms:
Slight pulsation in the clutch pedal when first pressed through engagement but nothing at the floor.
Sometimes difficult to go into gear.
Sometimes will not shift at all and have to turn engine off, shift, then back on and away I go.
Sometimes chatters a bit going into reverse or 1st.
Sometimes releases near the floor.
Sometimes releases near the top of pedal travel.
Shifts fine through all gears when engine off and at idle with clutch released.
No apparent abnormal noise from transmission.
Had burning clutch smell once after first time this acted up.
Sometimes seems completely fine...
I say sometimes because it is all really inconsistent.
Was able to get it to slip once going hard in 3rd which prompted inability to shift until turned off and then clutch release position changed again.
No apparent fluid leakage and bled the slave with no effect.
Driving me crazy.
Thanks for any advice or sure signs on which component(s) has failed!

From my experience you generally have one of two things or both wrong. Your clutch TO bearing might be bad or seperated partially or you have a broken pressure plate finger. Unfortunately you have sytoms of both so I couldnt pin it down for you. But in any case you have a clutch job in yoru future.
