Default no - it actuates your clutch disc

master cylinder translates pedal movement into hydraulic pressure

slave cylinder translates hydraulic pressure into clutch disc movement

Default Thanks. To replace the slave, does the clutch disc and associated parts have to be removed?

I have my car in at the dealer for non-related service and they "noticed that the pedal was mushy" and decided to replace the slave cylinder. I had started to feel some shuttering upon engagement too. I'm wondering if my clutch is just shot.

Default no. slave cylinder usually sits on tranny housing

not sure where it is on S4, but should be there as well. Replacement is just unbolting the old one, disconnecting the hydraulic line, and installing a new one

Default yeah, it sits right on top, pointing towards the drivers side

i dont know how easy of a replacment it would be though. I can barely get my hand down there to turn the bleed valve

Default Last question - would clutch abuse (launching, etc.) cause the slave to fail?

Or is that unlikely and the clutch disc would be the only thing to suffer? Thanks.
