Default code help, p1296, please read whole post before telling me to STFA

So I had pulled a p1296 a couple of days ago. I went and replaced the coolant temp sensor (the green updated one) and reset the codes. Car has been running fine until yesterday. I pulled into my driveway and shut it off for 10 mins. I went back to start it and it would crank but not turn over. I let it sit overnight and it started right up this morning. I now have a p1296 code again on a coolant temp sensor that has about 50 miles on it. Here are my questions:

1. Since I'm pulling a p1296 again and coolant temp sensor is brand new, bad thermostat? Or should I be looking elswehere?

2. Does the car not starting have anything to do with my "error in mapped cooling system" code, or should I just go ahead and change the Crank sensor and call it a coincidence?

Default A bad thermostat won't affect how your car starts unless it's completely overheated

You would notice a bad thermostat by seeing coolent temperature deviations.

Check connection first, but a bad thermostat could be a possibility...mine failed within 2 months

My mechanic says it takes much longer to get up to temp than other S4's he's worked on

Default You sure the coolant temperature sensor is ok? What temperature signal is it sending?

Did you try measuring this with a VAG?

I'm not "sure", but I'm assuming so since it's brand new. Which block do I log with VAG to check?

Im currently having the same problem with my 02 a4. I replaced the cts and my light is still on and im getting a p1296 code. Nothing seems wrong with the car other than the fan running too much... has anyone had similiar trouble?
