It is just a high powered electric magnet. When it touches metal it creates a magnet which in turn creates an electric field. That electric field heats up the connected metal in a fraction of a second. The technology has been there for years and is used is a lot of professional kitches for cooking. It's called an induction stove and cuts heating times by plenty yet allows the cook to touch the surface of the stove because all of the heat is contained in the pot. They only thing I am not sure about is how well it will stand up to abuse. Either way, a cordless soldering iron is worth the $19.95 IMHO. Hope that helps.

Default Sorry about that :)

Yup, all you do is touch it to any peice of metal for a second, then add your solder and you are done. Very simple to use.

Default There are a few sites dedicated to testing infomercial items, etc

The cordless soldering gun was tested by two of them. Both found it's ability to solder marginal to poor (it only worked on the thinest piece of wire tested) and one tester did in fact burn himself.

What is it that you are trying (or wanting) to solder?

Needs too much pressure to work right, just get a normal one.
