Default Conflicting numbers in Bentley and STFA, what level should i fill trans fluid?

From Bentley
Specification: oil level 7 mm plus/minus 1 mm below bottom lip of oil filler hole OR the newer version was said to fill 1mm below the fill hole. I cannot come up with a clear conclusion to this delemma?

Bentley also says the transmission reacts very sensitively to over-filling...WTF? I'm not sure what to do, what have you guys done?

Default I've always filled trannys up to just under the fill hole, when it starts coming out it's too full

once it drains, or I bump the car/truck a few times and no more comes out then i'm comfortable.

Never done an Audi however

Default Why not follow the manufacturer's procedure? ZF page link incl. w/ all trannys listed...

The links say Spare Parts Catalogs, but each one has a fluid and filter change SOP included in the first few pages. Overfill is bad, but underfill is worse. It's vitually impossible to overfill these trannys as there is an overflow lip.

http://www.zf-group.com/am/pc/pt/ampcpt07.phtml</a

Default BTW, the 5HP19FLA is the tip model used in the B5 S4, but every manual lists applications so you

can't really mess up. Also, the fill procedure is virtually identical regardless of model. IIRC, the B5 S4 6-MT is made by Getrag and I haven't found a similar publication for that tranny. I know Bentley revised the fill procedure for the manual version.

Default Drain completely and put in the exact specified amount of fluid...

That's what I did and it brought it to the required point below the filler (I forget exactly how far below now). Level with the drain plug is overfilling.
