Considering a used s4 need some advice
ok guys heres the deal....
i'm considering a used s4...pref 01.5 and up....
but i will probably not purchase one unless it's a cpo....
the biggest fear is obviously turbo's going, but i need to know exactly what is coverd under cpo, the 2 year 100K mile warrenty...
i'm assuming the turbo's are covered, but what are some problems that aren't covered?
also i don't really have alot of extra $ to put up for repairs, that why i'm looking at cpo...now i know you guys have all said don't get the s4 without having money for repairs, but will i really need it, if i get cpo??
thanks

Re: think of it this way your paying 2-3000 for the cpo. in 2 year i dont think you have that....
so you are saying it's cool then???
i want to buy a car still under warrenty and if after 2 years my turbos go fine, but for the first 2 years i want to make sure everything goes fine

IF you don't mod, getting a CPO S4 is smart. Once the regular warranty expires,
the CPO warranty kicks in. Turbos are covered. It is a $50 deductible. Like I said, if you do mod, don't expect the CPO warranty to cover you. Of course, you can be slick with mods (like buy a chip w/ ECU and swap it out for dealer service), but if you go that route, just be aware that it is a risk you are willing to take. The B5 S4 is a German luxury sport sedan that is relatively rare- and that means more expensive parts. My car is Stage 2 and I have CPO coverage (it kicks in this July) and I have had no problems (so far) with my dealer...

It seems like you are worried about turbo failure...
It is a good thing though....then the real mods can start! If you don't have extra cash to spend on the S you probably need not own one. Some free advice that might save you lots of $. But if you do get one you will love it and turn into a mod freak like everyone on this forum! Good Luck!

At this point a CPO will carry you for 2 years (at the most)...
That's a relatively short period of time, after which you'll need to think about paying for repairs yourself. Do you only plan to own the car for 2 years?

Re: IF you don't mod, getting a CPO S4 is smart. Once the regular warranty expires,
well i definitly plan on chipping it...since i live like 4 miles from awe....but i was thinking if anything does happen i'll have another chip...i'll just pay the extra and have 2 chips..
my friend has a 01.5 and the dealership he goes to doesn't bother him about his car being chipped or exhaust, but he hasn't had any major repairs like turbos....
also would the void the warrenty if i had preventive mods, like samco hoses, diverter valves, or short shifter;which i guess isn't preventive....
or who should i talk to at the dealership as a heads up??
i can live without modding my car for a year or 2 while the warrenty exists, it's probably a good thing cause modding like a sickness....i just want to have a nice "new, under warrenty" car and the s4 comes to mind
