Default Cost of OEM tires and general availability: Has anyone replaced a tire yet? (more)

Ok, this is really lame. I seem to have caught an industrial-strength pushpin of some type right where the sidewall meets the tread, and two tire shops have told me the same thing--can't be fixed.

What's worse is that neither dealer can find the tire, and they both tried to tell me the $285 "02" was the same tire--I know I don't have Pole Positions!!! One finally agreed that my tire was different, and said "if it exists, [WHATEVER!!!--there's four of them on my car!] it would be $200"!

I really could use some BTDT on this one, anyone?

Default Re: Buy a nothing tire for the spare and use the spare one.

Hi Scott:

I bugs me that the spare is a directional tire for the right side of the car. I would use this instead of your busted tire and put a basic tire on the spare??????

Default Tire Rack carries the 040's at $237 each -->

Do a size search (225/45-17) and the RE040 should show up. They're not listed when you search by brand.

Tire Rack

Good call. I think that's better than springing $237 for a tire I'd like to replace someday anyway.
