Default A couple windshield Q's (m) - Sorta long...

First of all, I hate m@$%f@ckin trucks that drive 80 mph and throw **** all over the place!!!

It seems to me that the Audi windshield is pretty susceptible to chips (I also had an A4 before). I've never had a big chip, but just little pits that annoy me.

Does anyone know of any type of glass protectant or some way to polish out the chips once in a while? I like my new clear window, and it seems that not following close to anything doesn't get you out of the way of all the sand and stuff.

May be a dumb question, but there's always hope. TIA.

Default I don't think you can really protect the windshield from stone chips....

...don't believe there is any sort of Stongard product for windshield glass.

There are products that will allow you to polish your glass, Eastwood sells one.

This kit can be used to clear off years of wiper haze from your car's wind- shield and save hundreds of dollars in replacement costs. Ideal for hard-to- find windshields on older cars. Try this test: Run your fingernail over the damaged area on your windshield. If your nail does not get caught on the scratch, your windshield can be renewed with this kit. Mark the damaged area mix the special Glass Polishing Compound with water, attach polishing buff to your drill or low speed polisher (1,500 rpm), and start polishing! Includes: 1/4 adapter, 1 lb Glass Polishing Compound, 2 7/8" x 1" Thick Buffing Wheel.

The Eastwood Company

Default I bought my glass polishing kit from JC Whitney

It's cheaper than Eastwood and it worked to remove winshield wiper scratches from my Alfa Spider project car.

The polish is called cerium oxide.

I've ordered lots of stuff from Eastwood and Whitney, and been quite satisfied.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/catsubpic.jhtml?CATID=3093&_requestid=9111</a

Default the dealer contracted a glass specialist to use a tool much like that on my windshield at delivery

to remove scratches from someone using a razor blade to remove the wrapping during the prep stage.

It looks amazing and I cannot see the marks any longer.

Default I have used for car restorations - not really good for chips though. German glass is pretty sh!tty

overall. Soft and fairly easy to scar. Had 1 BMW, 5 VW and 3 Audi windshields in the past 10 yrs(S4 needs one now, but the impact crack is below the left wiper so I'm waiting on my next one before replacement).

Funny enough I've never had a replacmement on any of my US or Jap cars(road hazzard). I blame the Jettas on the tall rake of the windshield though, everything seemed to hit it first vs the A4/S4s which projectiles sometimes hit the hood or roof instead.

Default Andy - do you know how this stuff compare to what Griott's sells?

I have Griott's new version of Glass Polishes and it has helped some, but I am left wondering if there is something that is a little more aggresive that does a more thorough job.

Griott's seems like it is filling in the surface defects like a glaze instead of actually polishing the glass.
