Default Cruise control not working, worried about APR chip install !!

My 2001.5 S4 that I bought in April, I've never been able to get the cruise control to work. I've tried everything on the switch, but for lack of a better way to describe it, its just "dead"... doesn't do anything.

I just realized that the APR that I've got scheduled to be installed TOMORROW, interfaces with the cruise control lever to switch programs. I'm worried that there's going to be some problem here.

Can somebody tell me, when (if) you use your cruise control, do any indicator lights come on in the dash? Am I doing something wrong? Should I take it to the dealer BEFORE I go get the chip install? (I don't want to go there AFTER its installed, and have them screwing around with it, when the APR is in there.)

Default Yes there are indicator lights on your dash (CEL light) that blinks to tell what program you are

running when you hold down the set button on the cruise control. Assuming you have APR EMCS of course.

Default you should take it to the dealer first. make sure it's working. if there is no signal

coming from the cruise control buttons, then you WON'T be able to work the ECMS for the APR chip.

agreed, are you throwing a fault code for the cruise control switch, if so, replace it.

Default Here is my theory.....Your car was chipped. The previous owner sold the chip and put in a new ECU..

the new ECU needs to be "coded" before the cruise control works. STFA for the procedure to login a new ECU and activate the cruise.

That is a good theory. I have had this happen to me before, will show up with a VAG.

Default Now I know what happened...

Now I know what's happened. When I bought the car, the previous owner took it through the emissions testing in BC, and it failed. It went into the dealer, pending the sale to me, and they replaced the ECU under warranty which fixed the problem. It looks like they didn't enable the cruise control after replacing it. Well that's stupid! Isn't that on their checklist of things to do when they replace an ECU? Now I have to cancel my chip appointment, and go to the dealer to have them fix this first. I don't have a vag-com to do it myself, as I found how in another thread.

Doesn't your chip dealer have a VAG? Do it at the same time. It only takes a minute to recode it.

2nd. Both new ECU's I've dealt with needed to have the cruise control enabled via VAG-COM.
