Damn, can't get to work...6spd won't go into gear. Any of you early birds got any ideas?

clutch and start car, be ready for the car to move in the direction you have selected even though the clutch is down
If it won't go into gear with the engine off, try to roll it a bit while selecting the gear, it should pop in. Then try starting it, again be ready for the car to move despite the clutch being depressed.
Hasn't happened to me, but I've read your symptoms a few times before.
I may be wrong, YMMV.

if the answer is yes.... clutch took a poop. it wont disengage
*DO NOT start it with it in gear even if your foot is on the clutch if this is the case********

Problem could be bigger than we suspect then. :-\ Hope not, maybe others will chime in. Sorry my sure-fast trick didn't work for you.

Basically with the engine off I put the car in reverse (which worked fine believe it or not), depressed the clutch, turn the ignition on, and started moving backwards. I braked to stop the car, but then couldn't get it into any other gear with the clutch down. That is, it's stuck in reverse until I turned the ignition off an changed gears again. So, not very driveable.
I put the car back in the first and pulled it back in the garage. Now apparently with the engine on I can actually get it into reverse, but with ugly grinding. No other gears will go at all though (and still no grinding for those).

then i shut it off and called a tow truck.
