my driver side CV boot tore on me recently.. its clicking when i turn though.. i phoned my tech and he said i should replace the entire axle which i don't mind doing.. but is it safe to drive on it for say another 1-2 weeks until i can get into the shop?
i may order the parts and try doing it myself even.. but i seems easier if you have a lift.. doh

Replaced the outer CV joint. If it happens again I'm going with raxles.com.
Don't do it yourself unless you're prepared for grease mess hell. Not too hard just super messy and time consuming.

...so I drove on mine for over a year before replacing it. I've heard you can cause collateral damage if the CV joint fails, but mine never did.

if you haven't don't it before. If you want to just swap the CV it would save you about 20-30 minutes not having to remove the six inner 12 point bolts.
I just did a CV boot replacement on the right front and it took me around an hour and a half.
Make sure to take a look at the opposite side- they usually seem to wear pretty evenly side to side.
