Not sure if this is a case of a weird problem, or bad diagnosis. My car has been in for 2 full weeks of service at A of Bville, the car is running fine, but i get a check engine light that says "cyclinder misfired" it has happened i think 4 times. Here's a timeline.
1) check engine light comes on, so i take it by,
2) they reset the codes, all is fine for 4 - 5 days.
3) when i leave it idle for like 10 min or so comes back on, stays until they reset it
4) take it in for week of service, they replace spark plugs
5) after i pick it up , light comes back
wait a month
6) take it in for service again, doesnt fix it
now i call and i'm told that they think the engine is not misfiring but something is telling the codes that it did, so they have to diagnose it as a mistake code... or something like that.
has anyone had this problem, car feels fine to drive, but dealer can not make it stop giving new check engine code.
I love my car and i used to love my dealer, but this is getting rediculous.
the weeks of service were because i went away on vacation, so they had a full week, but thought they fixed it each time or something like that...

here is your problem --"cyclinder" misfired-- my car has cylinders not "cyclinder"s.....now for the answer---I had a similar problem that was hard to diagnose...eventually a tech found a short in a wire that would periodically ground out the system. How did he find this? by getting SHOCKED! its not much help but mine was a real oddball and took acouple of days and a fluke to locate...

To bad you don't have the APR chip with the reset built in or a friend with a Vag Com, good $ investment.
As I said this only MY opinion which is thought highly of by me and a few select friends.
Try to have a good day.

this already qualifies for california lemon law, not sure where you're from, but call AoA tell them about the problem and complain complain complain. Then tell them you either want your car bought back, or you're going to sell it and buy a bmw. that worked for me.

I suggest it is bad diagnosis of the problem, and you find another dealer. If the ECU trows a code, and it is repeatedly the same code, then there is something wrong with what is indicated. If the ECU had a malfunction, it would either be sporadic, or the ECU itself would detect the malfunction, report it as an ECU failure, and go into limp. So I would conclude it is the spark plug, the coil, or the high voltage cord.
