Default Did Cosworth design the 2.7t? more questions and explanations inside.

I saw a video on the b5rs4 that tiff nidell was driving... He said that the engine was designed and worked on by cosworth(owned by audi?)... so was it only the RS4 motor? or was it the S4 motor as well>?

thanks,
cp

Default Cosworth Technology only worked on the RS4 motor - specifically the cylinder

head. But like any good engineer, they needed Audi's knowledge of the base engine platform. Between that, K04s running at higher boost pressure (the base 2.7T runs at .8 bar stock) and bigger intercoolers, that's the main differences between the RS4 motor and S4.

Aren't the camshafts, intake manifold and piping, airbox, MAF, injectors all different as well?

Default Paul Leeming who heads MAHLE Motorsports designed the RS4 heads and other bits and pieces. Paul

runs our WCTC engine program as well. He also ran the Champion S4 and RS6 engine programs. Some of the most talented engineers on the planet. Atleast we think so.

Default It'd be interesting to get his take on MAX power he'd put to the stock internals.

I'm sure they found the upper limit while testing.

Default What He thinks is max power is differnet then what the general public would think is max power...

The reason I say that is because max power in the race world is secondary to reliablitly. The Max power in a race condition which is basically (in World Challenge) WOT 80% of the time for 50 minutes, reliably, is different then just doing a run here and there.

Default And you can't get them to provide any insight for us? Like what they feel the max is on the stock

internals etc. Since i'm risking about $8-$10K by going big with no internal work?!
