Did a slight variation on the darintake last night.

After studying the area where the airbox sits for quite some time (ok, ok, I stared at it while I drank my beer) I decided to move the hole from the traditional position. I used a 3 3/8 hole saw in my drill press and came up with this.

The normal darintake hole placement is only about an inch from more sheetmetal, which the air would have to flow around to get to the hole. I felt that by bringing the hole closer to the fresh air, the air will have more of a direct path to the filter and be less turbulent. Also by cutting the hole on an angled area, your actually getting a little more 'size' to the hole. The only downside I can see to having it here is water 'may' get flung into the airbox easier.
Driving impressions: Well I can also say that this, combined with an S flo, is my first mod. Right away the car felt far smoother on acceleration, and lag between shifts felt virtually eliminated. It also may have been the fact it was 1:30 in the morining and the temps were around 67 degrees. After going around the extended block to get the oil warmed up, I headed for the nearest highway onramp, my favorite form of testing grounds. went to 5k on the shifts, it felt extremely crisp, and didnt have that anemic feeling after about 4500 like it did before. I merged and checked my speed at the top of the ramp, 110mph. Yep works good. Well I know stuff like this isnt very new to most of you guys here but I was so happy with the results I figure I'd post it anyway.
Looks like I'll have to change my sig too now.
