I did wetsanded and buffed the final product
First I sanded down the whole wheel (all the chips/dents/scuffs etc) along with every surface on the wheel. Wherever there was bare aluminum, I sprayed some grey primer. I then sanded down the primer surfaces and gave it a coat of silver. Then I wetsanded that down with 400 grit WETODRY sandpaper, gave it 2 more coats then a few coats of clear. Came out great! It does take a lot of time and patience prepping it (sanding mostly) to get it right. Also, if you do it on a waste bucket, make sure there is no plastic bag in it as the static causes little dust particles to float up and onto the rim surface.
I used 220, 320, and 400 grit WETODRY sandpaper, for the record.
