Did you see Garrett's recommendation about changing the oil lines on the turbo?
Quoted directly from his email: **** NOTE- we recommend all 2000 2.7Ts upgrade turbo oil lines to 2001 parts to help prevent oil starvation of the right turbo leading to early failure of the right turbo only. Audi updated the part! ****
Any idea how much new oil lines cost? Any idea whether a service bulletin has been released?

It is not just the lines that are different as well.---more
We have taken the time to analyze the 2 different turbos. The center sections are entirely different in regards to the oil sections. Audi has superceded the turbos on replacements as well as new cars. This is a real issue will all cars with the older style turbos. Feel free to give us a ring anytime.

i recently heard....
that the oil lines HAVE been identified as acually causing turbo problems.
the story i heard had something to do with assembly of the engines remote from the rest of the car. when the motors where shipped, some (many?) of the oil lines to the yet-to-be-installed turbos, got bent. they were "bent back" when the turbos were installed, but this has turned out to cause kinks in the line and disturbs oil flow with multiple heat/cool cycles.
there is supposed to be an Audi TSB now. (as late as last week) recommending inspection and replacement as required.
this is (somewhat qualified) hear-say.
THAT IS: i didn't see the TSB, but spoke to a tech who was just looking up other info for me.

This is very very disconcerting, this must be why all the right hand side turbos are failing..
And everyone has been thinking the 2001s don't have any different parts. It bothers me that audi wouldn't be nice and just tell S4 owners as a whole about this problem. Would they rather shell out the dough as more and more peoples turbos fail, and replace them as it happens? OR, would they rather just upgrade people oil lines, and any other parts under a recall? This doesn't sound good....

Can you imagine the uproar in three years?
...when thousands of '00 S4s come out of their warranties, and a handful of them (dozens? hundreds? Who knows?) start blowing their right turbos? Will these people actually be expected to pay for turbo replacement out of their own pocket for what is essentially a design flaw in the engine?
I really hope Audi does the right thing here.
Do we know when the new turbos and/or oil lines started getting put on cars? Was it the '00-'01 changeover or some other point?

Fortunately, turbos are under the 7yr/70,000 emissions warranty...
I just wonder how many 2000 models will have had their turbos and oil lines replaced by then, and who won't know...
