Does anyone else have trouble putting the car into 1st gear above 10km/h?????

it's not by accident you feel that way.......
its made that way on purpose on almost all manual shift cars to warn drivers to avoid engaging in 1st gear going any speed abover what you stated 10km/h. the reason is that engaging in first gear above that speed can do manage to transmission and would also give a a big whipsplash.
I am sure the S4 would have enough to power out anything in 2nd gear given that its a huge torque monster that there is no need to engage in 1st gear once the car gets rolling and if you are racing I don't believe you would take any corners less than 30mph(which is close to top speed for 1st gear)
