Does anyone have a rear diff lying around that they want to get rid of?
I started to get a wheel bearing like noise from the rear of the car. I just confirmed that it's one of the bearings inside of the diff. Most likely the pinion/input bearing.
I had some weeping of oil from the right output seal but I didn't think anything of it. Apparently I should have.
Thanks

CT. I've spoken with you before on AZ about some parts in the past. I tried to buy
a radiator support from you. IIRC, it had an EFK in it. Did you ever sell it? I still need one of those, too.
You're in NJ, correct?

Those bearings aren't that difficult to change.
If it is just the bearing, then that's no reason to replace the diff. The bearings are relatively cheap. The half shaft seal is also easy to change. I doubt the bearing actually caused that. If the shaft was moving enough to damage the seal then I'm pretty sure the bearing would fail.

Thanks Stephen. I'm just looking into it now.Fluid was actually full. Any writeup on R&R
and bearing swap? How many bearings are there?
I'm not even 100% certain it's a bearing in the diff. Although I don't know what else it could be. It's not a wheel bearing. I've tested them.
It's frustrating as hell. I *just* fixed some other things a week prior. I swear the car can't go without something wrong!

Just look at STaSIS's instructions for swapping the LSD. It is the same procedure.
By the way, lots of us who have installed their LSD have sitting around the internal open differential complete with bearings. It is almost certainly one of those two bearings that has failed though it could also be the input shaft.
Actually, I would be surprised if a bearing did fail unless the differential was run dry of oil or unless the differential was not correctly shimmed at the factory. They are bathed in gear oil which usually makes them last.
However, I would think you could put the car up on a lift and run it in gear. If the bearings are bad I would expect to hear or feel it on the differential.
