Pinion bearings make a whine very similar to gear whine, but is present at most all speeds.

Default *UPDATE* It is the rear wheel bearings. Apparantly it wasn't diagnosed correctly

When I got it up on the lift, you could hear the bearing noise just by rotating the wheel by hand. It's mostly the drivers side rear, but the other rear is a bit noisy, too, so they'll both get replaced.

Default That is the much more likely cause. :-)

If you can feel it or hear it when you turn the wheel with no load on it then it must be really bad. Be careful!
