Default Does anyone sandpaper the rotors when swapping pads?

Directions on the box of new Hawk HPS pads: "If disc does not need resurfacing then contamination from the previous brake pads must be removed. Sand disc with 130 grit sandpaper using moderated pressure..."

I figured the bedding process would take care of the old pad material...

Default Hmm. I've never done that.

That said, if they say do it, I'd do it. I'm guessing they wouldn't tell you to do it for no reason, and it takes very little time and effort.

Default i use emery cloth......works well

trust me, when swapping between track/street pads a lot material deposits from the different pads can lead to some very bad noises

Default Never done it...just bed in the new pads and called it a day.

That said, if you can't help yourself, use garnet paper, not regular sand paper. The aluminum oxide in regular sandpaper will cause issues IIRC.

Default i've never done it, but i can see why. I just bed on top and hope the new pad is stronger...

...then the old one. I clean the disc thoroughly with brake cleaner.

but plan on some pedal vibration till you bed the new pads in.

I sanded my rotors when no amount of bedding removed some deposits and it worked like a charm.

Not surprised .... you're not much of a rules follower - for an atty! :P
