Default Does SEL do the "exact" same thing as a boost controller?

Currently I'm running stock fueling w/ MBC in parallel & a TCD. I have my MBC cranked to ~20 then I dialed it down with SEL to ~85% which puts boost at ~16 and I fvcking swear that the ramp is smoother than just setting the mbc to ~16 and SEL at 100%. I am noticing this especially under high load, low RPM like ~3000 in 6th WOT.

But it also might be the crack. :-)

Default

nope, SEL scaling effects fueling curves as well IIRC

Default What? <scratching head>

SEL can only turn boost down, whereas MBC can turn boost up....if you have a TCD. Hope that helps, Kitt.

Default He's more or less correct. SEL changes a lot more than boost.

It changes load.

Default

Changes AFR, though?

Default I did notice that when I tweaked SEL, my 02's at WOT changed.

I can only assume that increasing/decreasing boost whether it be through a controller or SEL does adjust AFR.

To go through exactly what happened, I logged 02's this past weekend which peaked at .86 so I decreased SEL by ~3% which put my 02's in the .875 range.

So they do, in fact, adjust AFR in the same respect. No?

Default It certainly can. Many/most of the maps in the ECU are based on load.

The SEL adaption channel is going to scale down the specified engine load (SEL) which is an axis on those maps. So by changing the load, you are changing where the ECU looks in those maps for its data values for boost, fuel, timing, etc...

Default I see what you are saying but wonder if that is just the result of the

more agressive boost ramp up demanding more fuel or......

does SEL have no effect on WOT boost levels only the agressiveness or speed of the onset of boost (IE - LOAD)

still learning more about LW but curious about this...

Default Dude, 02 voltages aren't that accurate. I can do back to back runs and see .86 and then .875.

3% change is nothing, can't imagine it doing sh*t.

Default yes, but that's back to back....

don't get me wrong, I get the exact same thing. But I'm talking about parking, analyzing data for ~20 min, then relogging and getting consistant number changes from what they were in previous runs, logs with nothing else changed but SEL or a quick turn of the mbc.

The numbers ARE changing.
