The 16v block would bolt up, yes. In this case, it is an ABA block. These were found in every jetta 2.0 from 1993-1998. That block has the same mounting points as the AEB 1.8T. In fact, it would bolt right up to the 01E found in S4s.
You can bolt the 01E up to most (read: late 80s through present) VAG engines, including the 4-cylinders, the 5-cylinders, the VR6, and V8s.
The 4-cylinder engines bolt up to the 01E and 01A. The will not bolt up to a 016 found in a 4000q. Well, they'll bolt up, but the input shaft is too short.
So you have a lot of options as far as VAG engines go....034Motorsport uses an 01E in their VR6'd B5 A4. =) Hope that sheds some light.
