Default driving on a bad wheel bearing

How bad is it for the car to be driving on a "bad" wheel bearing? Can it mess up the quattro system? (My car has a humming sound coming from the rear) I've been driving on it for the past 3k miles. Unfortunately, it took me this long to diagnose the problem.

A bad wheel bearing will eventually seize up. That'd be bad period.

Default it can lead to a fatal accident in extreme cases...

sudden loss of control as the bearing siezes or fails.

Get it fixed!

Default I just had my left rear wheel bearing replaced...I was worried...

it would seize up and cause something bad...anyway, I found the wheel bearing at a local Audi dealership (~$90) then paid a local place to put it in (~$100) - I the realized that when they pulled the suspension upright I needed an alignment - got that done (~$70) - total was around $260

Default Attempt at describing...

For those who usually have winter tires, a bad wheel bearing will sound as if you had one large winter tire that spanned the whole width of the car, and you were going fast.
At first is very faint sound, but it starts to get louder and louder the more you drive the car.

I had both rears replaced about 3 weeks ago. I think that when the dealer replaced my rear rotors, they screwed the wheel bearings, probably by tightening the rotors too much...can't say!

Default 3K Miles ???????

Are you for real?
The sound started to bother me within 50 miles from the time I heard it. It was faint at first, but another 25 miles on it, and it started to get louder and louder. I was able to tell the shop exactly where I thought it was coming from, and they were able to tell me it was the wheel bearing even before they touched the car, just from my description.

The sound is so annoying, I can't believe you could stand it for that long.
Get it fixed very very soon!
