got upto 135mph on the test drive, the sales guy was super cool. then did a zero to sixty run and the car hauls *** off the line, accidently broke all 4 tires loose on my launch(just a little but it was cool!!!!) anyway by the time I looked town expecting to almost be at 60mph I was doing over 80mph, woops.
anyway, I am in the market for an S4 and was wondering if anyone here has driven an WRX STI and how it compares to say a chipped s4 in terms of performance/speed. I absolutely love the performance of the WRX STI but want the luxery of the S4. O, I also drove the new evo 8. also a fun car, you can really feel that turbo kick in w/ its 18lbs of boost, feels faster than the STI because of that I think but couldnt get past the fact that is was a Mitsubishi, ride quality was ****, car rattled and engine noise was absolutely horrible, it was hard to even talk at freeway crusing speeds.

but bye bye warranty
all around the s4 is obviously superior overall. if you can get one that is certified with a warranty still, go for it.

is faster than chipped s4 full stop.
I had the same decision to make and decided to get the sti for a couple of reasons, warranty was one, and primarily I wanted something fast, fun, and that didn't require a ton of work for the track.

So, from that aspect, I'd say they are similar.
Looks, price, warranty, luxury, etc might become bigger decision-makers than that little difference in speed.

If it's your daily driver and you use it for more than fun you will be way happier with the s4.
maintenance costs are higher but it's a better all around package IMO. The S4 that is.

Chipped B5 S4s feel pretty fast because they produce about 360-400 lb-ft of torque (depending on tuner, exhaust etc) at low RPMs.
The first time I rode in my S4 as a passenger I almost shat myself at how hard it pulled at low speeds. That's with a GIAC X chip and a full dual exhaust.
Haven't driven in or ridden in an STi yet.
