There's no comparison. S4 is a lot more refined, but the STI is more fun no matter how you measure.

That really depends on your definition of superior.

Default In very very few ways is the S4 superior.

Its a seven year old design, a four year old implementation. The one and largely only place it beats modern AWD rice rockets is in overall finish.

Thats hardly superior overall, especially since the S4 isn't terribly luxurious compared to most more modern cars, either.

Default I have an STi and a B5 S4 Avant

The STi is a great back roads burner. It's a real driver's car. The suspension is a little harsh. The interior is sparse.

The S4 is an excellent highway cruising car with one of the best interiors out there.

Each car has its purpose in life. But you have to respect the utter simplicity of the STi.

Default I just recently traded in my S4 for an STi. I'm not even out of break-in period yet and...

no radio and still have a big grin on my face every time I look at it, drive it, park it. If you are in the market for a car that has performance written all over it, do not hesitate to pick one up.

And for the record , I test drove an EVO and hated it. The suspension and steering was tauter and a bit more precise but it just does NOT have the STi's character, diesel-truck-torque curve(which you get to love very quickly in the B5 S4), and interior. It was a no-brainer.

Good luck!

Default I've test driven the STi and the Evo8 and as a daily driver the STi wins hands down.

As far as S4 vs STi:

S4 is a luxury sports sedan.
STi is a performance sport compact.

The two are nothing alike as far as types of cars go, so don't try to compare them.

The STi is the best all around new performance car you can buy for $30k today (in the USA). Turbo, AWD, seats four, 300hp, strong six-speed trans, almost every basic creature comfort except a radio.

The S4 is probably the best used performance car you can buy for $30k today if you want comfort and luxury in addition to your performance.

I have driven both, I own both, and my S4 is AWE stage 3. Get the STi.

Default Well, i ran 12.95 @ 105 w/ just a downpipe.. JUST a downpipe.. to stock cat back....

Let's see an S4 run below 13.9 w/ 185 dollars in mods... Not to mention an STi owns the S4 in every performance aspect, and if you aren't worried about creature comferts.. the STi is > S4
