I shopped the m3, 996 and C5 and chose the 996 because I like it better.
I also loved my S4.
I'm sure you love your M3.
Why does it matter to you what other people think about it? I hate the M3 VTEC and styling...yuck.
Really well driven it would be close to the 996 in performance and it costs less...so what, I like the 996 better in every way.
Who cares? The racing I'm concerned about is the stuff where they give me trophies, pay me some money and I get championship points...everything else is bull****.

1. You are a solid member of the "i know it all" faction, most typically, but not limited to, young males. Been there, done that, walked that path. You'll learn, eventually, and sooner or later realize that for the most part, age = intelligence..... provided you are willing to live and learn. Try to at least show respect for the "elderly", for, whether you like it or not, you'll be there one day as well.
2. While the delivery of your post is logical, when you boil away the supposed revelations you are presenting us (which, believe it or not, is not new news), it is nothing but the stereotypical "mine is bigger than yours" rant. BMW's are great automobiles, unfortunately for them though, they do seem to attract that type of person, and in doing so turn a lot of enthusiasts off (myself included) You lead by stating something quite correct... "to compare the two is ridiculous"... then you spend hundreds of words comparing them. Of course they are different, they are two entirely different classes of automobile. Why don't you compare your M3 to a Toyota Echo ? Here's a news flash for you... most S4 owners know what they have, and where it fits into the automotive genus. Your post is nothing but old tiring news. Go post it on the BMW forums, they love this kind of stuff.
