So, I was a bit worried when the DHL tracking number provided by the seller never worked... but today I am not so concerned. It took a few weeks, but here it is for $830 shipped... the RNS-E (A6 Variant for retrofit into my B5). It was supposed to include radio removal keys and a DVD, but they're not here, unless of course the DVD was shipped inside of the unit, but I can come up with that anyway if not. The seller is in Germany, and has perfect feedback of 70+ so I've dropped him an e-mail. If I get time, I'll power it up on the bench and find out myself. This was originally a "P" unit, but is supposedly running current firmware. It does include the the Serial and PIN inside the manual, so I need not worry about that. Even if I have to come up with my own DVD to hack, I'm still way ahead of the $1500+ that NavParts wants for a similar kit.
PSA: In Germany, DHL is actually owned by the national postal system, (Deutsche Post), so when a German seller says he's going to ship via DHL, it may mean regular German parcel mail. This has happened to me twice now, once with my TT DSG steering wheel, and once with this RNS-E unit. If you buy something from Germany, you may want to clarify shipping just for peace of mind. My car's down for other things right now so it doesn't much matter to me, but I got worried when the tracking number didn't work, DHL USA told me that everything from Germany takes 3-6 days, and there was nothing headed for my address from Germany. I was about ready to try and excercise the PayPal/eBay insurance for which this item was qualified.
