Default ECU compatibility between models

Does anybody have a cross reference sheet or any info about what ECU's would work in what other cars? I have a 2000 s4 TIP with a b-box ECU. I see ECU's (chipped) for sale all the time for tiptronic s4's, allroads, and a6 2.7t's. Is there any way to know if any of the other 'boxes' or years will work in my car?

I glanced around, but didn't find the info I was looking for, and found all sorts of conflicting info. So hopefully someone out there knows what they're talking about. Like someone that works for APR or GIAC.

Default I dunno. Bet with some recoding he could use a later A6's ECU. That'd have to include

reprogramming for the new MAF, which can be done.

Default not a VAG recode for MAF - that would have to be done by the tuner.

Scroll down and read my post from earlier today.

I wouldn't think that a recode from a tuner would be that expensive.

Default Re: The only other chipped ECU which would work for you is an A6 L-Box

How feasable would it be to switch it to a Hitachi MAF from the Bosch? Is the wiring complicated? Or are there too many supporting devices that would need to be switched too?

I am looking to buy an ECU that's already chipped.

Default

it's been done many times, so it's feasible, but not easy.

Default yea, just saying, there is some compatibility.

if he's dead set on having to stick with bosch, no clue, yours is a good answer as i could find.

no clue if any other 2.7t has ever used a bosch maf.

in theory, somebody could come up with a maf scaler that rescaled a bosch signal to hitachi and vice versa.

Default You are limited to 2.7T TIPs with Bosch MAF Sensors and no ESP

(although, you can recode it to make the ECU 'disable' ESP)
Like NYET said, I think you pretty much are stuck with B-Boxes for S4s and (maybe?) A6/Allroad L Boxes....

Your other option is doing a HITACHI Conversion.
